Responsibilities Include:

  • Health Education and Support: Engage directly with families to provide education on health and wellness.

  • Language Support: Offer translation services to bridge communication gaps and facilitate clear health communication.

  • Logistical Assistance: Help community members navigate transportation to access health services and programs.

  • Community Involvement: Participate in events and advocacy efforts to promote SLRO’s mission and services.

  • Outreach: Lead initiatives to enhance community engagement, focusing on overcoming barriers related to language, transportation, and childcare.

  • Youth Engagement: Collaborate with youth and community leaders to foster educational and leadership opportunities, particularly in sustainable food systems.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Foundation: High school diploma required; post-secondary education in public health, social work, or a related field is advantageous.

  • Experience in Community Health: Experience working with immigrant and refugee communities, and a solid understanding of the health issues affecting these populations.

  • Communication Skills: Fluent in English, with proficiency in other languages spoken within the community highly preferred.

  • Cultural Sensitivity: Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively within culturally diverse environments.

  • Mentorship Engagement: Build trusting relationships with mentees, offering guidance and support in various aspects of their lives.

  • Personal Development: Facilitate the personal growth of mentees, aiding in the development of life skills and resilience.

  • Educational Assistance: Provide academic support, tutoring, and educational guidance to help mentees achieve their academic goals.

  • Program Participation: Collaborate with the Youth Coordinator to partake in program development and participate in community outreach initiatives.

  • Progress Monitoring: Track and report on the development of the mentees, ensuring their growth aligns with SLRO's objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Background: High school diploma required; an Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related field is preferred.

  • Relevant Experience: Proven experience in mentorship or youth development, particularly within diverse cultural settings.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication abilities and a talent for fostering meaningful connections with the youth.

Youth Coordinator

Role Overview

As a Youth Coordinator with SLRO, you will be the architect of opportunity and growth for the younger members of our community. This role is central to our Youth Sustainable Development Initiative, which equips the youth with essential life skills, fostering their capacity to flourish as confident, competent, and socially responsible leaders.

Responsibilities Include:

Program Development and Oversight: Design and manage youth programs that focus on leadership, skill development, and community engagement. Develop curricula that resonate with the youth, catering to their diverse needs and aspirations.

  • Partnership Building: Establish and maintain relationships with schools, local businesses, and community organizations to support and expand program offerings and create pathways for youth advancement.

  • Mentorship and Coaching: Develop a network of mentors and facilitate mentoring relationships, ensuring that each young person receives personalized guidance and support.

  • Community Outreach: Act as an ambassador for SLRO's youth programs, engaging with the community to raise awareness and participation. Organize events that showcase the talents and achievements of our youth.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Implement robust monitoring mechanisms to track the progress of the initiative and the participants, adapting strategies as needed to optimize outcomes.

  • Resource Management: Oversee the allocation of program resources, including budgeting, fundraising, and volunteer coordination, to ensure the initiative's operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Preferably a Associates Degree or Bachelor’s degree in education, experience in social work, community development, or a related field.

  • Experience in youth program development and management, preferably within a multicultural setting.

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to inspire and mobilize diverse groups.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in cultural competency.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, including youth, families, community leaders, and partner organizations.
